1st INTERNATIONAL GUITAR MAKING COMPETITION ‘ANTONIO MARIN MONTERO’. GRANADA, 26-29 October 2017.



Contest rules:

 

All the guitar makers, from any country, nationality or age, will be eligible to submit their application.

It is compulsory that the contestants participate in the activities which make up the contest, including meetings with the festival collaborators, and they must pay a Registration Fee of €150 to this bank account number:

The instrument:

·It must be completely finished and hand-made, in its entirety, by the contestant himself.

·Only 1 guitar per contestant

·The guitar must be made in the style of a Spanish guitar. Those made with double top, nomex, carbon, etc. will not be accepted.

·The election of wood and everything regarding to the instrument will be the applicant´s responsibility.

·The jury will evaluate all the guitar features: sound, the interior and outer finish, playability, rosette making, varnishing, bridge, etc.

·The luthiers who take part in the competition, must remove the instruments after the qualifying round daily, and they must take them to the following round in the case of being selected.

·The applicant will be responsible for the costs of his/her travel, housing and food during the whole event.

·Two labels of different qualification and importance will be given to the contestants after the competition. They can use them in their instruments with reference to the contest.

     - For the finalists. This label will attest their passing to the final stage of the contest.

     - For the winners. This label will identify the category of the award obtained.

·The finalists and winners will be authorised in writing by the EGF to state on their labels the award they ____ have obtained.

·The applicant will always be responsible, at all times, for his/her instrument which must be watched and cared by him/her during the event as well as to be in charge of the availability of the instrument for the jury within the time agreed.

·The jury´s decision will be indisputable and accepted by all the contestants.

- Friday, 27th October

10.00 h. Exhibition of the contestants guitars for David Collett. ‘Guitar Salon International’ President

‘Centro Cultural Federico García Lorca’.

16:45 h. Contestants reception by the Major of  Granada .

17:00 Preliminary phase of the contest.

- Saturday, 28th October

17.00 h. Semi-final phase of the contest.

12.00 h. Final and Awards ceremony with concert.

Once the presentation has finished, a soloist will play the guitars which have become finalists. At the end of the recital, the jury will go to a different room in order to deliberate on the awards. After the awards ceremony, when the jury´s secretary will make the results known, there will be another short recital with the winning guitar.

Mr. José Miguel Moreno. International world famous soloist. Stringed instrument maker. Professor in Advanced Music Conservatory of Madrid.

Mr. Julio Castaños. Guitar professor at the Conservatory of Málaga. Guitar maker specialising in period instruments.

Mr. David Collett. President of Guitar Salon International in Los Ángeles.

Mr. Edmund Blöchinger. World- renowned guitar maker.

Mr. Manuel CáceresWorld famous guitar maker.

Mr. Scott Morris: International Guitar Soloist . Music Departament Chait ar CSU California State University.


Secretary: Mr. Esteban Ocaña. International Piano Soloist and Professor of Piano.



Awards.

2 awards are given:  

 

Gold Medal: 1st International guitar building contest gold medal ‘Antono Marín Montero’  

The gold medal winning guitar will be given to the EGF by the winner for a year. The EGF will exhibit the guitar in a city museum for one year at least.  

Guitar Salon International (Los Ángeles) will purchase two guitars from the winner in one year for €2500 (for each one).  

Supporting certificate and labels of the award may be used by the winner on his/her instruments.  

 

Silver Medal: 1st International guitar building contest silver medal ‘Antono Marín Montero’  

The silver medal winning guitar will be given to the EGF by the winner for a year. The EGF will exhibit the guitar in a city museum for one year at least.  

Guitar Salon International (Los Ángeles) will purchase one guitar for €2000 .

Supporting certificate and labels of the award may be used by the winner on his/her instruments.
